Wit & Wisdom in Sync - Meet Student Needs through Social Emotional Learning

In all grades, Wit & Wisdom® texts and read alouds offer a chance to explore the human experience and address universal themes and emotions. Storytelling is a natural bridge between academic and social-emotional competencies.

In addition, collaborative learning opportunities help students build relationships and develop communication and listening skills. Knowledge-based discussions allow students to reflect on their learning and hone academic expertise and social-emotional skills.

The Wit & Wisdom in Sync™ coteaching structure means that the Great Minds® teacher can provide direct content instruction while the classroom teacher responds to students' needs and fosters a collaborative classroom community—whether in person or online.

To create a collaborative classroom community in changing contexts, teachers will want to establish routines and norms as in a physical classroom. Predictable routines will relieve students' anxiety. Wit & Wisdom in Sync™ begins at Module 1, but classroom teachers with students new to Wit & Wisdom may want to build community, establish classroom norms, and practice the routines and processes of the curriculum by beginning the year with Module 0:

• Grades K–2
• Grades 3–5
• Grades 6–8

Clarity and consistency in expectations and communication will also support students. Weekly schedules for students and families or caregivers will be helpful. Teachers will want to communicate clear lesson goals and instructions for completing tasks.
