Find Assessments
Teachers can find assessments directly from the curriculum on Teach pages, or they can view the assessment library by navigating to the Assess page. Select Assess from the main menu on the top navigation bar.
Use the assessment library filters to find specific assessments.
-
Select a grade Level.
-
Select a Type of assessment.
-
Select a Module.
From the assessment details page, you can do the following:
1. View assessment items and correct answers.
2. View the standards associated with each item.
3. Click the standards flag to see all the standards associated with the assessment.
4. Use the kebab menu to print the assessment, view the assessment as a student would, or duplicate the assessment so it can be modified.
The option to duplicate an assessment only appears for Benchmark Assessments.
5. Assign the assessment.
There are sometimes multiple correct responses programmed in an assessment item, yet when the teacher previews the assessment or reviews scoring, only one correct option will appear.
Assign and Launch Assessments
1. From the Assess Library or the assessment preview, click the Assign button to assign the assessment.
2. Select the class(es) or student(s) to assign the assessment to.
3. Select a start and due date and time for the assessment.
When choosing the start date, teachers can also choose the launch time. Otherwise, they must launch the assessment manually from the Assign page when it is ready for students.
4. Select View advanced settings for additional options.
Engineering and Science Challenges and Capstone assessments will not have the “View Advanced Settings” options.
Engineering Challenges, Science Challenges, and Capstone Assessments are all teacher-scored teacher-facing assessments. Once assigned and launched to a student, the student will not see it on their dashboard/To-do list. These assessments provide the teacher with rubrics to complete to support scoring.
Assessment Settings
Use the advanced settings to apply a timer to the assessment, shuffle questions, or to give students access to a calculator.
- Set a time limit for completing the assessment.
- Shuffle questions (to applicable questions only).
- Give students access to a virtual calculator.
We do not recommend using the Shuffle questions setting as PhD Science Texas assessment items are meaningfully sequenced for students.
Release Score Settings
- Decide when students will see their scores and correct answers by selecting Release Score Settings.
- By default, students will see their scores and answers once their teacher has completed all scoring.
- Select after submission to allow students to view their responses immediately after they submit the assessment and before the teacher scores their attempt.
- Select after the class completes the assessment to allow students to view their scores after all students in the class have submitted the assessment.
- Select Save for the release settings to take effect.
Scoring Recommendations:
-
Select after submission to support the End of Module Assessment or End of Spotlight Assessment debriefs outlined in the Teacher Edition. This will enable individual students to view their responses after submitting them and before scoring. Students can use rubrics to evaluate their responses.
-
Alternatively, the after the class completes the assessment option can also support the End of Module Assessment or End of Spotlight Assessment debriefs outlined in the Teacher Edition. However, this setting requires that all students who had the assessment assigned to them submit the assessment before any student can review their responses.
When you've finished configuring your assessment, click the Assign button to assign it to your class(es) or student(s).
Launch Assessments
After configuring and assigning an assessment, the assessment will be in the Assignment library on the Assign Page. If the assessment was configured with an auto-launch time, then at that time the assessment will become available for students to begin. Otherwise, select Launch to make the assessment available to students.
1. Navigate to the Assign page using the left side menu.
2. The Active/Past tab shows assessments that have no indicated start time.
3. Use the Status filter to find assessments that are Ready to Launch or once you have located your assessment click on Launch. Teachers will need to launch these assessments manually to make them available to students.
4. Click the Upcoming tab to find assessments that have an automatic launch time. These assessments will be available automatically for students.
5. Click Launch to make an assessment available to students.
