Great Minds provides lesson labels on the module overview pages and lesson guidance pages. These labels serve as helpful indicators about the types of resources that are included in each lesson and allow teachers to better plan ahead.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the different types of labels:

  • Advanced Prep — Indicates the lesson requires significant advanced preparation.
  • Anchor Chart — Indicates the anchor chart will be created or updated during the lesson.
  • Anchor Model — Indicates the anchor model will be created or updated during the lesson.
  • Capstone Project — Indicates students work on a Capstone Project in the lesson.
  • Conceptual Checkpoint — Indicates the lesson includes the Conceptual Checkpoint. These Conceptual checkpoints are available in print and digitally.
  • Driving Question Board — Indicates the driving question board will be created or updated during the lesson.
  • End-of-Module Assessment — Indicates the lesson includes the EOMA.
  • End-of-Spotlight Assessment — Indicates the lesson includes the EOSA.
  • Engineering Challenge — Indicates the lesson includes assessment as part of an Engineering Challenge.
  • Hands-On Activity — Indicates the lesson includes activities that use materials other than typical classroom materials (including both student activities and teacher demonstrations). This lesson label also implies Plan Time.
  • Homework — Indicates the lesson includes homework.
  • Plan Time — Indicates the lesson includes activities that require the teacher to do something ahead of time but are not Advanced Prep (e.g., cut out cards for a card sort, make a supplemental glossary for a text, etc.).
  • Science Challenge — Indicates the lesson includes assessment as part of a Science Challenge.
  • Socratic Seminar — Indicates the lesson includes the Socratic Seminar.
