Wit & Wisdom in Sync - Texts
Texts are the heart of Wit & Wisdom®; every module is organized around a topic-focused set of core and supplementary texts. All Wit & Wisdom students build shared knowledge and vocabulary from the same rich, complex texts. Texts serve as exemplars of content and craft on which students can model their own writing. Students use evidence from the texts to present careful analyses, claims, and information in academic writing and discussion. When instruction shifts between in-person and distance learning, all students must have texts in hand to engage fully in the text analysis that the modules require.
If acquiring texts poses a challenge for schools, schools may want to explore sources other than their regular book provider, including reaching out to publishers directly to explore possibilities for educational use.
Great Minds® teachers may read excerpts from core texts to support video instruction, but core text read alouds are not part of the Wit & Wisdom in Sync™ resources. In addition, some authors or publishers did not grant permission for read alouds or displaying of text or illustrations in Daily Videos. However, to engage in textual analysis, students must be able to read the words on the page. Schools using Wit & Wisdom in Sync must plan to support students in having access to texts.
