Foundation Unit

The Foundation Unit is the first unit of the course and can be accessed from the first tab in the unit list. This unit is intended to give teachers an understanding of students’ incoming reading, writing, discussion, and presentation skills through exposure to a breadth of literacy skills and analytical processes that will be developed throughout the year.

Development Units

Development Units are choice units organized around whole-text instruction, featuring either full-length works (e.g., Hamlet) and supplemental texts or a topic (e.g., artificial intelligence) that is developed through a set of related, whole texts. Each grade offers six Development Units, and teachers choose which ones to teach rather than covering all six — giving flexibility to match student needs and interests.

Application Unit

The Application Unit is the final unit of the course. In the unit list, use the right arrow  button to navigate to the Application Unit tab. In this unit, students review texts and topics they have encountered throughout the year and choose a text or topic they want to explore further.
