Assignment and Grade Services
This article explains how to utilize Assignment & Grade Services for Great Minds assessments within your Learning Management System (LMS).
Assignment & Grade Services—also known as “grade passback”—allows scores from a content provider to sync back to an LMS Gradebook.
Prerequisites
- Assignment & Grade Services is available for the following products: Eureka Math Affirm, Wit & Wisdom Affirm, Eureka Math Squared
- Assignment & Grade Services requires additional setup before teachers can use it. Administrators must complete the configuration steps for your LMS: Schoology | Canvas
- Assignment & Grade Services requires your district to be fully rostered within Great Minds prior to utilizing this feature.
- Assignment & Grade Services requires your LMS course to be successfully paired with your Great Minds class. If you have not yet paired your class, follow these instructions first: Pair Class
- To send student scores from Great Minds to your LMS Gradebook, students must SSO from your LMS into Great Minds at least once. Once students have successfully signed in, their scores will sync from Great Minds into your LMS Gradebook. If a student’s scores are not syncing (but others are), first confirm the student has accessed Great Minds via SSO from within your LMS.
Score Sync
When Assignment & Grade Services is enabled, all scores created by assessments in Great Minds will be automatically sent to the paired course’s LMS Gradebook. No action is required by the teacher. Once the teacher clicks “Finish Score”, whether accessed directly or via SSO, the score will be transmitted to the LMS Gradebook.
Scores are synced based on two triggers:
- The teacher creates an assessment
- The teacher finishes scoring an assessment
This means that if a district decides to enable Assignment & Grade Services after assessments have been administered and scored, those scores will not automatically populate in the LMS Gradebook.
Scoring Rules
For Equip Assessments, as of August 10th, scores transferred to the LMS Gradebook will be based on Core Items only. This is consistent with Great Minds recommendations on scoring Equip Assessments for comparative purposes.
For Wit & Wisdom End of Module Assessments, non-numeric rating scores are converted into a numeric score for transfer via LTI. LTI does not support non-numeric scoring, so transmitting the raw rubric ratings is not possible.
Scores are converted to a percentage score out of 100 by averaging rating scores according to the following conversion:
- EE = 1.0
- ME = 0.9
- PME = 0.75
- DNME = 0.5
Item Checklists, where they exist, are not factored into the score.
General feedback that teachers add to a score will be visible to students via their LMS Gradebook. Item feedback is available to students via Great Minds directly or by launching a deep linked assessment that has been scored and whose scores have been released.
Important Considerations
- If Assignment & Grade Services is enabled for a district, all students in paired courses will get an LMS Gradebook entry line for all assessments created in their class, even if they are not assigned to a specific student. This is a limitation of the LTI sync parameters.
- If scores are changed in the LMS Gradebook after they have been synced, these changes will not transfer back to Great Minds. The sync process is unidirectional from Great Minds to the LMS.
- If scores become out of sync between the LMS Gradebook and Great Minds, use the Sync Scores feature to initiate a resync of assessment scores from Great Minds.
